The double page spread is taken from ‘Kerrang!’ magazine and includes news on the band “My Chemical Romance”. There are two columns of text; however this is just on one page as the other page contains a large image. The image is of the main singer and takes up the entire page. Next to this there are three other smaller images in a strip continuing from one page to another underneath the text. There is one big heading piece of text which is a quote from one of the members which is effective and makes the reader want to read the article to find out where the quote is from. There is then a smaller heading stating what band the article is about. It is set out in an interesting way and looks professional. There is a strapline, which is the bands name in the subheading. This draws attention to it so the reader knows who the article is about. There are certain elements which overlap each other such as the smaller images overlapping the main large one which covers the pages. There is also the colour of the double page spread. The main image makes the background black as that is what the colour of the image is because of the fact it is in black and white. This means that other elements such as text have to be a colour that would stand out so it’s white and red. This makes the layout more interesting and organizes the page so that the reader doesn’t become confused or can’t read some of the text; everything is clear.
The images on the page are all photographs, and are of the band itself. Since all members are male all images are of male characters. The images are viewed from the point of view of whoever would be standing in front of the band member, or on the main large image it would be from the point of view of the audience as it is taken at a gig. The pages are image led as the photographs on the double page spread are dominant and the text only takes up a small portion of one page. There are also captions on the images used for anchorage, although they are quite serious and not sarcastic, they allow the reader to know about what is happening in the image without there being a joke involved.
The font of the main quote heading is quite large and bold, it is noticeable and the font is plain but effective. This is the same for the smaller heading however the font is smaller and there is only the strapline (band name) in bold. Both headings are in capital letters. The main body of text is even smaller but still readable. There are “screamers” used in the title, as there is an exclamation mark at the end of the title. This emphasises what was said and shows the reader that it has been stressed. There is also other punctuation like this in the small text and on other small headings such as “WORLD EXCLUSIVE!”. The vocabulary is very sophisticated and technical; the text uses words which relate to the music industry and sentences are strung together in a professional way.
